Setting Up Your New Blog

This tutorial is about 7 minutes long and will guide through the steps to get your blog set up for the first time.  The tutorial will work for both teacher and student blogs because we all use the same platform  - Wordpress MU!

Tip:  You can use Command and plus key to make the text on your screen a bit bigger!

Enjoy and please ask if you have any questions.

Tech Crosswalk Planning

As part of our commitment to meeting the needs of all staff and students at Shanghai American School and adhering to the newly created Standards and Benchmarks, please find a short survey for every grade level below. This will become a guide as to what skills you would like to focus on during the next school year in your classrooms and will also guide what areas I can collaborate with you on as our computer roll out is complete next year in the middle school.

If you are a specialist, please fill out for at least one of your grade levels. Consider choosing the grade level you have or wish to explore technology with in detail.  It might be good in the text box at the end of the survey to name your subject so we can target your needs.

Thanks so much for your feedback!

School Board Voting Under Way!

With only seven weeks left in the academic year there’s still a lot happening! Among the important events, is the upcoming SAS school board election. We would like to remind you that YOU have a vote in the upcoming board election. WE hope that you will exercise your right to participate in this election and help determine who will sit on our school board. Board ballots must be turned back to school by Thursday, April 29 at 5:00pm.

This post is not about campaigning for any individual candidates, just to serve as a reminder that you can exercise your vote in an election that will confirm two new members. This is significant because of the effect that two strong choices could make for a school board of this size. Please take some time to make an informed choice by having a look at the 4 candidates to understand their priorities and views, and by chatting with others about their opinions. It’s always a good thing to have the right to participate in elections and we hope you’ll find a few minutes to complete your ballot and send it in.

Key facts:

  • Four candidates are running for two available seats. (Please remember that this board governs all of SAS so it doesn’t matter if the candidate is a Puxi or Pudong parent. The candidates serve in the interest of both campuses and make decisions that benefit Pudong and Puxi alike.)
  • Voters must vote for two candidates on their ballots to avoid invalidation. * Ballots are due by 5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 29 (PLEASE NOTE THIS NEW DATE: it’s a day earlier because of the recently announced municipal holiday on April 30, the previous deadline).
  • Ballots are counted on Wednesday, May 5, with results presented at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, May 6 (again, new dates because of the holidays).
  • If, for some reason, you have not received your ballot please contact Maria.Tay@saschina.org

SPAM Invasion!

We are being invaded!!!!!  As much as l love ugg boots… grr….

As we fight the spam war and understand our enemy the first step is to stop your blog from emailing your groupwise account when a comment is sent to your blog. To do this you have to go to the dashboard of your blog.

Go right down to the bottom left and look under Settings.  Then click “Discussion” Where it says “Email me whenever” uncheck both of these boxes.  See the 2 photos below…

This will help stop the emails coming but not the SPAM….we are working on this – thanks for your patience

Highlighting Tech

Walking around the classrooms at SAS Pudong, I am always impressed by what our teachers are doing in their classrooms and how our students rise to the challenge.  One year ago, I can safely say that we were still learning how to best use the technology at our fingertips.  Many of the things we are doing now seemed so out of reach last school year.  We are all still on a technological journey and we are all thankfully still learning, but, hey – look what we can do now!

Student engagement is always at the forefront of educational discussions. The fact of the matter is that when students are actively engaged, they are not only learning faster but they have a deeper and better understanding of the content at hand.

Good job teachers and good job students!  I am so proud to be part of such an amazing learning environment here at SAS.

Take a look at just a few examples of tech around our middle school over the past couple of weeks!

Time to Change Your Computer Password!

Changing your passwords periodically on your computer is a good thing. Remember than you can only change your password at school. Changing your password at school lets you access the school servers. You can change your password for both of these accounts from your System Preferences panel.

1. Log in to your personal account (you’re probably already logged in).
2. From the Apple menu (top left corner) choose System Preferences.
3. From the View menu choose Accounts.
4. Click the lock button if it appears locked; enter the administrator password “student258″.
5. Select the username whose password you want to change.
6. Click the Change or Reset Password button.
7. Enter your new password in both the Password and Verify fields, and add a hint if desired. 8. Click the Change Password button. Repeat these steps to change the “install” account password.
9. If a dialog box appears with the message “Your Keychain password will be changed to your new account password,” click OK.
