Sorry everyone!
Closing out the year these last few days have been a very fun experience! I love the conversations I have been having with all my classes. Students have learned so much these past two years. Students are able to classify their own artwork and the work of others. Art terms like landscape, still life, portrait, mixed media, horizon line, Impressionists, coil pot, and pinch pot are part of their young artist vocabulary. Famous artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo, Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, and Georgia O’keeffe are names the students are very familiar with! Students are making connections between the artists and their styles, and are asking some really thoughtful questions! Way to go guys, Miss Valenti is very proud! I will miss you very much when I move back to New York!

landscape fun!
First graders are enjoying learning about the life and works of Claude Monet. They are also learning some new vocabulary words: horizon line, Impressionism, and landscape. After deciding whether to hold their paper horizontally or vertically, they first drew a horizon line. Then, they painted the ground and sky. Students painted in the Impressionist style by using lots and lots of tiny brushstrokes, lines, and dashes. After that, they learned how to draw and cut a tree. First graders are putting as many trees as they wish in their landscapes. We also reviewed their knowledge of the seasons, and discussed what kinds of things we would find in their landscape during each season. They are now just about ready to start adding their own creative touch by adding houses, fences, animals, and whatever their heart desires! Stay tuned to see their wonderful results!
After learning about the life and works of Impressionist artist Claude Monet, Kindergarten students are creating their own version of his very famous “Water Lilies” painting. They experimented with the Impressionist style of painting, and are now finally adding their own creative mark to the piece! So far they have added frogs, flowers, logs, and other animals that live in ponds. It is great to see the interdisciplinary connections they are making! Without any prompting from me, many students have added tadpoles along with their frogs!
