2JS has been learning how to “change the world” by writing letters! Our enthusiastic writers have written letters to teachers, principals, ayi’s, parents and even presidents. Many letters have been responded to, but today Mrs. Tucker came to our classroom to read a letter she received that would have a positive effect on the entire second grade. Kevin B.’s letter persuaded Mrs. Tucker to allow the second grade students to sit anywhere they chose at
lunch. Everyone was very excited and thanked Kevin for his persuasive letter that made a difference in our SAS world today!

We are full swing into our goods and services unit. This exciting unit involves earning a salary (income for coming to school, making good choices, homework and class work neatly completed), expenses (making poor choices, homework not completed/messy, forgetting to do classroom jobs), and creating a business. To create a business the second graders will come up with a business plan. Their business can be a proprietorship or a partnership and offer a good or service. After they determine their business they will then plan how to pay for their business, advertise, and open their business on market day, June 8th. On that day, the first grade students and our parents will be invited to stop by and shop.
So far we learned about goods and services. Along with that we learned lots of new vocabulary, such as supply and demand. Monday in 2JS we had an auction that helped us to better understand supply and demand. The class was divided up into 4 groups. Each group was given $50. When the auction began the students were given one minute to decide whether to bid on the item and what price they would pay. It was very tense at times as the bidding took place as all four members had to agree to purchase. The highest bid of the day was for an chocolate cakes for $18. Apples were a close second at $16! After the auction the students divided up their purchases and enjoyed a tasty snack. You may watch the video below to see some of our fabulous auction in action!
