Katz Inspires Reading Buddies!

Posted by jspeece on January 24, 2010

Alan Katz was originally scheduled to be one of our visiting authors this year, but since he is unable to make it to Shanghai, he is making a virtual trip instead– through Skype! On Monday, January 25th, we will participate in a videoconference with Alan Katz and his family. In preparation, we have been  singing and reading his ditties in our class and with our reading buddies from two of his books, (”Take Me Out of the Bathtub” and “Are you Quite Polite?“). Inspired by his writing with our buddies we brainstormed topics, practiced rhymes, generated lyrics and hummed well-known songs or lullabies that fit our lyrics.  Finally, we were able to publish our new songs. Some partnerships typed up their songs, whereas others preferred to work by hand. Minds joined together to illustrate and piece together their final creations. Please click below on the thumbnails to read the final product. We are hoping to post sung versions on students’ individual blog pages in the very near future!
