Where Creativity and Imagination come to Life
I hope you all had a great, relaxing spring break. I have heard many exciting stories from students about their travels during spring break…check out individual student blogs to see what they got up to. It’s hard to believe but your child is into the final quarter of their fifth grade year! I can tell you that it will be a busy one and it will be over before you know it. We have many fun filled and important events coming up this quarter such as; field trip, parent conferences, soccer day, spring fling, transition assembly, fun day and more…hold on for an exciting ride!
Parent Conferences
I will be calling all of those parents who could not make their assigned conference times to confirm a new time.
ERB Writing Test
The test is administered over two days for approximately 60 minutes each day and will be completed by all Pudong students in grades 3-8 from April 13-17. More info will be coming out this Friday.
Class Photos
Class photos are in. Your child will be bringing home their photo/s today.
Scholastic Book Order
Please read the information on the form and return to school asap with the correct money.
Field Trip Reminder
Our field trip to the Science and Technology Museum is on this Friday. Thank you to the parent helpers for your help. Please let me know through email if you will be meeting us there at 9:30 at the front entrance or if you will be traveling with us on the bus from school.
Health Video Permission form
As part of our grade 5 health unit we will focus on Puberty. Your child will be bringing home a permission form from the school nurse to view a Puberty video as part of this unit. You, as parents, will be given an opportunity to screen the video before deciding whether you would like your child to view it or not.

The answer to last weeks problem:
Dimensions B:
5/8 = 8/x
64 = 5x
12.8 = x
(a) Surface Area = 2 * Area A + 2 * Area B + Area (top) + Area (bottom)
= 2(8*5) + 2(8*12.8) + 2(5*12.8)
= 412.8
(b) Volume = l x w x h
= (12.8)(5)(8)
= 512
The Question
Three people share a car for a period of one year and the mean number of kilometers traveled by each person is 152 per month. How many kilometers will be traveled in one year?

Today, Ms DeCardy and Mr. Power came in to make imovies on macbooks with us. As we look forward to middle school (a very scary thought for some) there are many questions that we want to find answers to. So each student recorded a question and uploaded it to the school portal. We then embeded our video to the moving on up wiki space.
The 5th graders did a great job and we look forward to the Eagle ambassadors answering our questions over the next few weeks. We will be checking back on the wikispace regularly!
So 5JT,
What did you think of the whole process?
Did you think the process was easy or difficult? Why/Why not?
What was the easiest part?
What was the most difficult part?
Do you prefer using the Mac’s or PC’s?
Post your answers to the above questions as a comment and then embed your video on your personal blog.

Techdo.com is a very helpful site. This post takes a look at some of the most comprehensive and reliable educational Web sites a student can bookmark and use to research school projects and homework assignments.
The next time you are completing homework or a research project, check some of them of them out. One of these sites may answer that question that you can’t find an answer for.

How good are your geography skills? Check out the link and test your knowledge of geography. There are various quizzes to choose from.

All of the grade 5 students had a great day!
We all had lots of fun!
We look forward to another junkyard war next year!

I know that many of you are seasoned travelers and have probably been on more flights than you can count. I know that as I am just getting comfortable on the airplane, the voice of the flight attendant comes over the loud speaker and you automatically tune it out…not a very sensible thing to do but we all do it. How many of you really listen to the flight attendant instructions as your flight is about to take off? Check out the video of John Holmes from Southwest Airlines. Would you listen more if your flight attendant was John Holmes?

Don’t forget to get a photo while you’re on spring break next week. You will be writing a postcard to another student in grade 5 describing a moment from your vacation on your return. I will be in Shanghai during spring break showing family in and around Shanghai. I can’t wait to see the photos of your travels and I’m even more excited to read about what you did.
Have a safe spring break and we’ll see you back on Monday 30 March.
