Weekly Update – February 26
February 28, 2010
Have a nice weekend.
It’s hard to believe that it’s the end of February already! This means that there are just under two weeks before our 5th Grade Invention Convention (Thursday, March 11). This also means that students should be working on their inventions and log books every night. For homework, Invention Convention is our top priority. I will cut back on other homework, and if you feel your child needs some extra time to finish an assignment, please let me know. Even though this is a very busy time for 5th graders, I do not want them to be overwhelmed and staying up late!
This is what students should be working on for Invention Convention in the coming days:
- gathering of materials and construction of invention
- 5 construction log entries (reminder that pictures should be taken during this process for their log books and for brochures)
- Once the invention is completed, 3 tests/trials to make sure the invention works
- 4 recommendations (from family, friends, classmates, neighbors, etc…)
- Brochure (we will work on this in class)
- Pizazz (business cards, posters, additional props, etc…) for the actual Invention Convention. Some class time will be given.
Due dates are all posted on the blog. Student examples from past years are on the Wiki to guide the quality of work expected.
