Giving a Voice to Historical Fiction

It has been a wonderful surprise to see our class so engrossed into their historical fiction books. To culminate this experience, we will be creating book trailers using GarageBand. Students use higher thinking skills when they create their own ‘movie’ on their book. It is seen as a reading activity more aligned to their digital [...]

Pi Found

Like a Dan Brown novel, a mystery of the ancient past was solved last week. Determining the exact value of Pi, whose value is used in circles, has been troubling mathematicians since Sir Isaac Newton. Yet, Fabrice Bellard of France figured it out using a home computer (with some extra hard drives) and a great [...]

Yes, it’s snowing. But not in Shanghai. Not yet. But, it could. Chinese scientists have artificially created snow in Beijing. This adds an interesting element to the ‘water cycle’ we are studying in class.
Today’s Essential Question for students to be posted in the comments section: What positive and negative things could result from humans [...]

Going Pro

Hmm.. seems I’m taking too many pictures. I’ve decided to upgrade to the Flickr Pro account for my class. Several of the keynote technology speakers mentioned to me that of all the areas to spend money, this would be the best way to spend it – even for a small budget operator like fellow Canadian [...]

Book Reviews reviewed

I love reading books. I love looking for books whether online, in libraries or at a store like Chapters. One of my favorite sites is Amazon.com because of the reviews by users. I use the editorial ones to determine what the book is about and the reviews by users to determine if I should buy [...]

iTunes 9.0 allows users to arrange iPhone icons

Recently, I was asked to upgrade my iTunes, I said sure, even watched the video — the bit about sharing music in the same household sounded worth following up on. I wondered how this wouldn’t also spill over into the workplace, but only after reading Wesley Fryer’s deeper look on a great feature of the [...]
