All classes have now had a chance to work on their wiki: www.env-ngo08.wikispaces.com and they are almost ready for the NGO conference.
Students should be putting their last pieces together on presentation boards and practicing their short speeches to convince visitors that their cause is worth supporting.
The conference will be held on Weds/ between 11:00 - 2:45.
Parents are welcome to the session after lunch (12:55-2:45.
Venue: Third floor - MS. Mainst
Today and tomorrow will see all grade 8 students getting trained and signed up for the ENV-NGO08 Wiki - Thank you Amanda for doing so much helping us get our new environmental site ready. Our next class period will be devoted to developing this wiki basically from your NGO proposal papers which are due our next class. I think you will find that it will be much easier working as a group from home with each partner contributing by developing your assigned section of the wiki and editing your site. All of Core time on Friday (the half day) will be devoted to NGO centered activities.
Since we have just started the wiki development, the new NGO Conference date has been changed to 10 Dec.
Great job on our bike trip into the village for water collection. I felt very positive bring back an equal number of students that I took out without incident. I am proud of the way you represented SAS in our local community.
Now comes the difficult part: Water Analysis
Levels of phosphates, nitrates, Coliform bacteria, pH, turbidity, along with disolved oxygen will be some of the tests we perform on your samples.
Turn in all yellow journals of observations and your week worth of waste / energy consumption. I would like to read them before Friday.
NGO Project OverviewNGO Project OverviewWe are starting our last ecology project: A group created NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) that deals with a particular enviromental issue students feel strongly about. It culminates with a conference here at school on 4 Dec.
Outlined on this link are the requirements and skill development (wiki) expectations.
Decomposition of soil labHere are the instructions for the lab you are designing to test the breakdown of a variety of substances over time - the making of soil.
Welcome to a very busy week with Student Led conferences taking place on the two half days Thurs and Friday. Hopefully, you have your confirmation of conference times, but here is a master list of those times students brought in to me last week. If you do not appear on the list, please send in a request via e-mail or form and I will schedule you as best I can.
Here is a list of those confirmed for my Advisory class as of Sunday evening 2 Nov. Any questions, please feel free to contact me. Michael.Saich@saschina.org

Monday 27 Oct. We will be reversing classes - A-1 class will move to after lunch and A-2 will move to the 11:00 slot.
Along with those switches, Monday also starts the new elective schedule. See postings in the hallway in the morning for the class you will have this quarter. (No switches to other electives the first day)
The class Biomes in a Bottle experiment continues throughout the next two weeks. So far, most of the fish are still alive and thriving. For those that are not, students will need to access what went wrong and if it was due to their experimental variable or other factors.Thank you to Jonathan Chambers for posting the Youtube video showing one of my classes setting up their experiment.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeQjs4TmVxE
