Re enrollment packages are coming in - Are they complete?

As the end of the school year rapidly approaches many of our activities are focused on reflection on this year and preparation for next.  We ask that you as parents take a moment to reflect on the important information being presented to you by our admissions department.  You have all been asked to fill out the medical forms for re enrollment for the 2009-2010 school year.  One common mistake many are making is in regards to booster shots.  Please read below to see if you are completing the form with all the appropriate information.

Does your Child need a Booster Shot?

During childhood and adolescence there are scheduled times that children need a booster shot.  A booster shot is an additional dose of a vaccine needed periodically to “boost” the immune system to be fully protected from several diseases.  During childhood the most common ages and boosters needed are:

Ages 4-6

MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)

DTaP (Diptheria, Tetanus, Pertussis)

Polio

                Ages 11-12

                                Tdap/Td (Tetanus, diptheria, pertussis)

If your child falls in one of these age groups or is older than these ages and still has not received these boosters, please see that they receive them over summer holiday in order to fulfill SAS Mandatory Vaccination Requirements.  Students entering grades 3, 6, 9, and 11 must see a doctor for the required medical exam.  This is the perfect opportunity to make sure your child’s shots are up to date so don’t forget to take vaccination records to the clinic.  Your doctor may also suggest other vaccinations that would protect your child that are not mandatory SAS requirements, such as a Varicella booster at ages 4-6.

If the school nurse finds your child has not met mandatory vaccination requirements by the start of school in August 2009 you will receive a letter and will need to ensure this is completed within one month of notification.

We understand vaccination schedules may be confusing.  If you are unsure if your child is due for any vaccinations or have any questions please contact your child’s School Nurse.  We are happy to help and wish you all a safe and healthy summer!
