Course Guidelines 2008-09

"Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being

and not merely the absence of disease"

- World Health Organization

Dear Students & Parents/Guardians,

As we begin a new school year at SAS Pudong, it is important to review the expectations of our Physical & Health Education courses. Physical Education and Health Education are year-long courses taught separately, within the same schedule. Your child will have the same teacher for both subjects. Please read the guidelines below for understanding.

Description

The Middle School Physical & Health Education programs will inspire students to the benefits of an active and balanced lifestyle. Exploration of activity and sport from around the world, instruction on effective athletic techniques, and empowerment in making healthy choices will provide a foundation from which students will excel in their lives.

We are committed to guiding students to the power of educated choices and the fun of activity, whether competitive or cooperative, team or individual. One important key to success in this program is student responsibility.

Physical & Health Education at SAS Pudong  are subjects in which student participation is emphasized.  Participation for all students, regardless of ability level or personal experience, is the major focus and expectation of the program. Physical Education lessons and units are planned to help students increase their levels of physical fitness and athletic abilities. Our Health Education course is designed to enhance classroom learning in a positive, supportive setting.  In both courses, it is our goal to provide a physically challenging and emotionally positive experience for all students.
