Dear parents:

The coaching staff hope you all had a restful and enjoyable holiday and we wish you a very healthy and prosperous new year! All the best!

Upcoming news:

I would like all HS swimmers to come to practice today (Monday) and tomorrow (Tuesday, Jan. 7th). After that, only APAC swimmers will be training in the afternoon. Everyone else will be training in the mornings only, until we leave for APAC. There will be no HS practices on Wednesday, Jan. 15th, Friday, Jan. 17th and Monday, Jan. 20th.

Shanghai Swim League Cup is on Feb. 22nd and SSL Plate is on March 1st. We will decide who swims at which meet by the end of this week.

Bangkok Swim Meet is on March 15-16. Some of you have already written to me that you will be attending this meet. Please let me know if you are interested. Our new Travel Agent, Liz Shen, will be at the Pudong Aquatic Center on Thursday, Jan. 23rd from 1:30pm –4pm to collect payment. Do not hesitate to write to me if you have any questions regarding this meet.

I’m sure some of you swam during the holidays so we are looking forward to this week’s practices. We are full on until Chinese New Year!

All the best.

Dear Parents:

It was heart-breaking that we had to cancel the Candy Cane Meet last Saturday. I know our swimmers were ready for some good swims, but the decision to cancel came from our Superintendent with the air quality being very poor even indoors. As of now, the meet has been canceled. If we find another date for meet, we will let you know. However, our schedule for 2014 looks pretty busy and full as it is.

Today (Tuesday, Dec. 10th) is our last day of practice. Those of you who attend the Wednesday Swim Club, we will be having our last practice this Wednesday, Dec. 11th.

We have been training very hard since we started in August. Please make sure that your child trains somewhere over the holidays, either in a compound pool, a pool back home or at a resort pool. It would be a shame if our kids lost their fitness over the holidays. I have posted some workouts in our blog.

First practice back will be on Monday, Jan. 6th. Our next meet will be the SSL Cup Meet on Feb. 22nd (open to the fastest six swimmers in each age group in each gender) and the SSL Plate on Mar. 1st for those who did not attend the Cup meet. We will announce the Cup participants in January.

Our coaching staff is very happy and honoured to be coaching your child/ren. They have been working hard to get the maximum effort out of our swimmers. I am very grateful to have a coaching staff that is dedicated and hard working, all for the improvement of SAS-Pudong Swim Team.

In conclusion, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all of you who celebrate Christmas, a very Merry Christmas and for all to have a safe, healthy and loving holiday! See you in January!

We are getting ready for the Candy Cane Meet this Saturday! It should be an exciting event with just Pudong and Puxi swim teams participating. I have not received any emails from parents requesting to use the bus from JinQiao. Let me know if you are going to be on the bus, which will leave outside the Starbucks in JinQiao across from Green Court 2 at 7am. If you are coming on your own, please be at the Puxi Aquatic Center at 8am ready to warm up.

We will not be going to the Nanjing Swim Meet scheduled for January 18th. Our staff will be at APAC in Hong Kong and so therefore we have canceled the meet. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Shanghai Swim League Cup vs. Plate
The Cup meet is on February 22nd at the Puxi campus and it is open for the top 6 swimmers from each age group from each gender. Those who do not qualify for this meet, will be participating in Plate meet one week later, on March 1st, again at the Puxi campus. We will announce the swimmers who will participate in the Cup meet after the Winter break.

Our last swim practice for 2013 will be on Tuesday, Dec. 10th. There will be no practice on Thursday and Friday, Dec. 12 and Dec. 13.

Finally, as we are approaching the Winter break, we are encouraging all swimmers to find a pool either in their compound, a team back home or a hotel pool and train over the holidays. We have been training very hard and it would be a shame for our swimmers to return from the break out of shape! I will send out some practice in our next email for the swimmers to do over the break.

Congratulations to our combined SAS Swim Team in placing third at the Taipei Swim Meet last weekend. Our swimmers swam united and made a great impression at the meet! Well done!
Please find the Taipei Meet results:

Friendly reminder that there will be no swim practice this Thursday, Nov. 28th!!
Thank you,

Dear Parents:

Our High School swimmers swam victoriously against SAS-Puxi last Friday at our 1st Annual Dual Meet! Our girls’ team score was 92 points to SAS-Puxi’s score of 29 points while the boys team were winners with 87 points to SAS-Puxi’s 35 points!
This was the first time we held a meet on a Friday and it turned out to be a great experience for everyone! All our HS swimmers swam four events in less than two hours and were competing at their best even at the end.

Last year, we placed second in both the girls’ and boys’ teams at the APAC championships. Our goal, always, is to improve from last year. We will have our work cut out for us, but our both our female and male swimmers have been training really hard and I know that we will reach our goal!! Gooooo HS swimmers!
Thank you to all our parents for helping out at the meet. The meet ran smoothly and we couldn’t have done it without you!
A big THANK YOU to all our coaches who have been doing a great job at training and coaching our swimmers.

We will be leaving for Taipei this Friday, so there will be no swimming (again) this Friday, Nov. 22nd as there will be no coaches here. Add the Thanksgiving Day holiday we have next week, sadly, our kids are missing a lot of Fridays. Talk to your coaches on maybe coming to practice another day so they can still get their two practices per week in if possible.

All swimmers going to Taipei, please make sure you are at the Pudong airport, T1 at 7am.

Thank you,

Dear Parents:

We trust that you all had a restful weekend.

There will be no practice this Friday (AM and PM), Nov. 15th due to our Dual Meet against SAS-Puxi. Our HS swimmers have been training very hard and we are looking forward to this unique meet. I am still waiting for some parents to volunteer as not everyone has written to me yet.

Spirit Shirts, Dri-Fit and Polo Shirts
We are expecting the Spirit Shirts and the Polo shirts to be delivered next week. Please make sure that you all have a Polo Shirt especially when traveling on the airplane. Spirit t-shirts or dri-fit t-shirts can be worn during swim meets. Once they are delivered to our school, I will sent out an email to let you know.

Taipei
We are all ready for the Taipei Swim Meet. All swimmers and parents are to meet at 7am at Terminal 1 at Pudong International Airport on Friday, Nov. 22nd. I already sent out information regarding this with the itinerary, so let me know if you did not receive anything. VERY IMPORTANT: I have only a handful of parents reply to me regarding ordering breakfast on the days of the meet. If we don’t have time to shop for our breakfast the night before the meet, your child might not eat a breakfast as our hotel does not serve breakfast.

Singapore
All looks good with this trip. We are leaving after school on 28NOV.

Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Dear Parents:

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone in making the SwimVitational 2013 a HUGE success! You would not believe the kudos we received from coaches and parents from other schools. The meet was successful because of our parent volunteer, the coaching staff and of course the great swims by our own SAS-Pudong swimmers! If you were able to see some of the meet, you would have seen some amazing races, making this a very competitive meet. This meet will be held next year at this time at ISBeijing. Thank you all again.

Our next meet is our Dual High School Swim Meet against SAS-Puxi, right here at our own Aquatic Center in Pudong. This will be held on Friday, Nov. 15th right after school. HS Parents, I will be sending you an email later about more this event.

If you are going to either the Taipei Meet or the Singapore Meet, you should have already contacted me and Lily Zhang, our travel agent, regarding these two meets. I will be sending out an itinerary soon to all the parents attending.

Friendly reminder that there is no practice today, Monday, Oct. 28th.

Nov. 7th and 8th are Parent-Teacher Conferences and there will be no practice on both those days.

Dec. 7th is the Candy Cane Meet at SAS-Puxi for all ES and MS swimmers.

Thank you again!

Dear Parents:

Due to the hard work of the Swim Team coaches in preparation for the upcoming SwimVitational, I have taken the decision to CANCEL practice on Monday, Oct. 28th. This is for both morning and afternoon practices. Swimmers are to take the school bus home at 3pm (they can catch up on homework!).

Dear Parents:

The coaches and swimmers are all getting excited for the upcoming SwimVitational. There are 527 swimmers entered from 18 teams and schools! It’s going to be a good one!

Volunteer
By now, you should have received the link to sign up for volunteering at the meet. I have to personally thank Coach Sandy Elder for painstakingly plugging all parents’ emails into the database (over 120 emails!) and having this spreadsheet ready for us. It was a lot of work but something that will pay off as all parents’ emails are in the database and we can use this for future meets.
If you haven’t signed up yet, we might not have your correct email, so please contact Coach George. It goes without saying that if your child did not qualify for this meet, you are not expected to volunteer for this meet.

SwimVitational Meet Manager
Coach Pat Lu is in charge of collating all the entries from the various teams and through the database, organizing the Meet Program. There has been a lot of exchanges with other coaches organizing this event and Coach Pat has been doing a very professional job in putting this meet together.

Our new Record Board!
You will be very pleased to see that our new record board has now been put up and assembled. Coach Suann Sun and Coach Ryan Yan have been tirelessly gathering all the personal best times from our SAS Pudong Swim Team members, getting them laminated and assembling in their proper age group. Not an easy feat and it looks quite impressive! Have a look when you come to the meet.

Please take the time to thank all our coaches for their hard work in coaching our swimmers, teaching all day, getting the meet ready and making our facility an inviting place to be!

Uniforms, Suits and Caps
Rocket Science, our sponsor for our team, have promised us that the supplies will be ready before the meet. They will be on sale during the meet in the concessions stands. Every swimmer will receive a red swim cap free of charge of this meet. We recommend that swimmers DO NOT wear their racing caps during practice but save them for racing.

Snacks
Thank you to Melissa Juszynski for organizing snacks during the swim meet. Please contact her (avoid pressing “reply all”). We are all grateful for healthy snacks during the meet!

Don’t hesitate to contact myself or your coaches for any questions you might have.

Dear Parents:

It’s getting busy here at the Aquatic Center trying to get our SwimVitational organized, having Lily, our travel agent here for payments to both Singapore and Taibei meets and of course, coaching our great team!

Like I said before, we have told the swimmers if they qualified or did not qualify for this meet. If you are unsure if your child is swimming at the SwimVitational, please contact your coach.

I have attached the volunteer sheet. There are three sessions of about 3 and a half hours each. Please contact your coach and let them know which spot you would like to volunteer at and which session. I have already started the sheet with parents already volunteering, so please have a look. Our swim meets are a success because of the hard work of our volunteers, so make sure you send your name to your coach and we thank you for all your help.
Volunteer Swimvitational

If you have not already paid Lily for our international meets, today is the last day. Please contact her whether you are traveling on your own or with the group as there are extra fees to pay. Lily’s phone number is:
136 6188 0571

There is also going to be a concession stand selling healthy snacks. Melissa Juszynski is going to send out an email encouraging you to provide us with some snacks during the meet and we will be needing people to man that station as well.

If your child did not qualify for the SwimVitational and you are not going to an international meet, the next meet is on December 7th (Candy Cane Swim Meet) for ES and MS only at SAS-Puxi!
