The SAS Intra Meet is fast approaching. This meet will be held on Saturday, September 18th. Warm up will be at 8am. The meet will start promptly at 9am and we are hoping for a 12noon finish.
As you know, Pudong will also be hosting the Fall BBQ. We decided to host our swim meet the same day to have the Puxi swim team not only compete in our new facility but also to experience our BBQ at the Pudong campus. Since we are hoping to finish by noon, there should be no conflicts. Swimmers must stay at the pool until the meet is over and then head out to the BBQ after the awards’ ceremonies.
Parents, please have the swimmers here at the pool before 8am to be ready for warm up. YEAP bus company is kind enough to provide a select bus route to bring students to the pool but buses will not be provided to take swimmers home. However, the BBQ has planned for buses to return to JinQiao at 2pm and 3pm.
SAS aquatics program expects that all families volunteer in any meets that we host. The success and the efficiency of the meets depends on all parents helping out. Some of the volunteering assignments will be timing, marshaling, stroke and turn judging, starting and labeling. If you have experience in any of these assignments, please contact George Carpouzis (george.carpouzis@saschina.org) directly. Please state what you are comfortable in doing. If you have no experience in working at swim meets, Coach George will give a quick in-service on timing at 8:15am.
Here are some answers to questions you might have:
Will towels be provided at the meet? No. Please make sure that your child has a towel or two for the swim meet.
What should the swimmers wear? We are in the process of ordering bathing suits, T-shirts and sweats for the swim team members to purchase. Unfortunately, we will not have them in time for the meet. Please have your child wearing either an SAS swim suit if they have one or a tight fitting one for the meet. Usually, the swimming pool area gets very hot, so swimmers should have a light t-shirt on for the meet (parents too).
Do the kids choose the events they are swimming in? No. The coaches choose what events the swimmers will compete in. Sometimes they discuss this with the swimmers, sometimes they choose what is best for the team. Please do not ask the coaches to change the swimmers’ events. This is up to the coaches. This also applies to relays as well. We discuss with the swimmers their events, the order of events and the relays. The swimmers know this usually a week before the meets starts.
As a parents, when do I know when my child is swimming? Heat sheets will be for sale on the day of the meet. They also will be posted around the pool area.
What are heat sheets? Heat sheets, or Psych Sheets is the program of the meet stating the events, heats, what the kids are swimming and when. Please remember that the times or the events are always an estimate. Very rarely do the meets run on time.
If I am not working at the meet, am I allowed on the pool deck? Locker rooms? Please do not come down on the pool deck if you are not working. This is the swimmer’s area and the place where the coach gives instruction to the swimmers. Having parents on the pool deck only confuses the child. Please cheer your child from our viewing gallery. Also, all our swimmers know how to dress themselves so there should be no parents in the locker rooms. Bathrooms are located close to the Aquatic Center.
If this is your first time at a swim meet, the coaching staff welcome you on board and hope you (and your child) have a fun and fast experience.
