Well, it has been a while since an update has appeared on the main page here. That’s because the Humanities classes have been hard at work on their Rome Research Projects. The project consists of an essay and presentation on a specific aspect of Ancient Rome. You can use the class links to check out the students’ essays which are posted on their blogs. As an added bonus, they also posted videos of their presentations! If you check them out, you just might learn a whole bunch about Ancient Rome!
Barak Obama has become the first African American President of the United States. This is a very historical occasion for the U.S. Will you always remember this event, or will you easily forget it? Is it still historical to you if you are not American? These are interesting questions you should think about as a historian in training. You should check out his victory speech below.
Well, what do you think? Write a post about this question on your blog. Paste in a picture that helps drive your point home too. Once you are done, check out what your fellow classmates wrote. Post a comment for at least one other student’s response. Let them know if you agree or disagree with thier thoughts. Be nice!
Today we are working on a collaborative document (insert your Ooooo’s here). Remember the work we did with the essential questions for our Rome unit so far? Well, we are going to put it on paper…digital paper! Google has this cool collaborative document program called Google Docs. We will all be able to ad to, and edit, the same document anytime, anywhere! First you have to get on your new school email account. I will go over this today in class. The new mail system is run through Gmail. I have already emailed you at your new SAS student mail with the link to our document. Once you are logged in you will find that email, click on the link, and start collaborating. Sound easy? It is!! I will give further details in class.
Famous student quote: “What if I’m done?”
If you and your partner finish early, click on the Assignments page for more work. I know you love it!
Hey There! I really like this clip from Monty Python’s The Life of Brian. It really makes the point that Rome truly changed (and often upgraded) the territories they conquered. Their changes were not always appreciated at the time, but their accomplishments were great enough that we are still studying them today.
Week one of our Rome unit is done and we have several more to go. Next week, we will continue to work on mapping, Rome vocabulary, and some early history. For now, here is a little video for you. You saw my video of what Rome looks like today, now see a virtual tour of Ancient Rome!
Hello Everybody! Well we all have the week off so it is time to relax! Teachers have to work Monday & Tuesday so our vacation starts on Tuesday night. I hope you all have plans to spend good times with your family and friends. After the break, I will be giving you an up to date grade report. This will give you an YES it must be signed by your parents. When we get back we will be starting our unit on Ancient Rome! This promises to be a history Extravaganza! Make sure to keep up with your blogs periodically. Remember, it is your way of showing the world your personality, not just for homework. Here is a really cool video that shows a man who draws the entire city of Rome, Italy…FROM MEMORY. We will talk about it when we get back. Later!
