Limericks! So clever you need a Leprechaun to recite them!

http://greywolf.critter.net/images/gallery/sketches/2007-05-22-leprechaun.gifSo today we are discussing limericks.  These are cute little poems that tell a quick story or make a silly joke using fun rhyming schemes.  The more creative you are, the more enjoyable your limericks will be.  Here are the rules:

Lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyme.

Lines 3 and 4 rhyme.

Lines 1, 2, and 5 are longer than lines 3 and 4.

There are also rules about the syllables:

  1. Lines 1, 2 and 5 contain 7 to 10 syllables that follow the stress pattern da-DA da-da-DA da-da-DA.
  2. Lines 3 and 4 contain between 5 to 7 syllables each and follow a da-DA da-da-DA stress pattern.

Here are some websites to help you:

These are so easy!  I wrote this in less than 3 minutes!  What can you come up with??

There once was a teacher called K

Who ate piles of bacon all day

He became oh so fat

He couldn’t buy a hat

and so all his hair went away

Write 2 limericks on your blog tonight.  One should be related to Catherine, Called Birdy and the other should be about ANYTHING you want (as long as it is appropriate).  DO have fun with this!
