Our school is Shanghai American School. We are international Students from around the world who love to learn. |
We are a class of third graders. Our goal this year is to grow as learners. Reading with fluency, writing from our hearts, growing independence, gaining ‘multiplication fact power’ in math, keeping our bodies and minds healthy are just some of the things we need to do to be successful third graders. Having a passion for learning, wanting to celebrate our successes, and learn from our mistakes is a must in grade three…watch us as we rise up to the challenge, grow wings and fly into grade four!
Our Blog is a great way to see what we have been learning this year. It is also a great way for us to connect around the world and for the world to connect with us.
I have been working in Shanghai American School since 2000.
I trained as a teacher at Auckland College of Education in New Zealand and have taught children from year 1 (kindergarten) to year 8 (Grade 7).
I am also trained in Reading Recovery.
My passion is teaching. I like seeing students grow in their reading and writing, having ‘a-ha’ moments in math, and WOWing in science. I like seeing children rush to the class in the mornings, get excited over using technology in the classroom, and laughing with friends. I am constantly growing as a learner and therefore changing as a teacher.

Hello Ms. Toa,
I understand that you love Roald Dahl. One of your students, Ally, found her way to our Brainwaves blog, http://thebrainwaves.us Check out our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory green screen video.
We would love to establish a relationship with your class. If you visit our blog you will see videos of Skype calls that we made this year with New Zealand, Russia and Hannibal, MO. We are also involved in a Global News Paper and an Olympic 2010 project. I’d like to invite your class to join us in both or either of these projects. Please email me for details.

Dear Mrs. Toa and class,
I am very glad that we have been able to connect with you through our class blogs. My students really enjoy checking out the students’ pages.
I can tell that you do very exciting and interesting things in your learning. It would be great if we could collaborate on a project sometime! I think I mentioned that we will be doing a global kite project next month. It is a fun way to use math and also learn a little bit more about our amazing world. Let me know if you are interested and I can send you more information.
I’m open to other ideas!
